He said a relationship only lasts if the guy loves the girl more. I couldn’t help but wonder: was it just a casual observation, or did he already know that I was too scared to admit we were willfully blind to the cracks—and that somewhere along the way, we had become strangers before we even realized it?

Or, Nakama finally met his girlfriend’s college friends. And that includes Elias, who happens to annoy the shit out of him again. — Chapter 01.

Perhaps our last meeting in the parking lot was the one that sparked the problem. On our fourth time, we met at the local library—the one I always went to whenever I needed to smash through an assignment in peace.

“Of course I’d find someone like you here,” Elias grinned, resting his back against the bookshelf while I scanned the books in front of me.

I ignored him, bending down to look at the bottom row. I pulled a book from its slot, stood back up, and finally looked at him.

“Should I start being careful before I walk into a place? I'd hate to catch you doing something you shouldn't be doing, again,” I blurted out a sarcastic answer.

Elias laughed. He sounded so annoying.

“Kissing in the library sounds hot, actually. Thank you for the idea,” he said, entirely unfazed.

Elias followed me around—not like a lost puppy, but like a predator tracking its prey. We wandered around the stacks for a while, but most of the time I just wanted him to get tired of me and leave.
