I can’t pinpoint the exact moment this little devil ruined my life, but the first time we met, he was wearing a blue striped shirt.

He was odd—eccentric, to put it mildly. His hair was ash-brown, and it was a weird sight considering no one in the engineering department would dye their hair with such color.

He had a half-lit cigarette perched between his fingers, trailing a faint wisp of smoke into the air. Again, something absolutely no one in engineering would dare do. Especially not right outside a professor’s office.

I didn’t mind him that much. Maybe he was just a passerby, or maybe he was a lost freshman from another department doing a campus tour for kicks. So I brought myself to a door with a wooden tag on it: “Andrew Sai”, and knocked twice. The knocks sounded embarassingly weak.

“Mr. Sai’s not in there,” the boy piped up. He shot a quick glance my way before sliding the cigarette back between his lips. A second later, his face vanished behind a thick cloud of white smoke.

“Oh,” I muttered, stepping back awkwardly. “Do you know where he is?”

“Nope,” he said, popping the 'p' without even looking at me.
